Obvously my external is hosed because I never got to the quarantined phase becasue of the stupid sleep mode. I only logged in here to get advice with you guys. I thought I read where the virus can morph itself into fooling the anti-virus software, so I'm not trusting I'm clean.

Finally just disconnected my Mac from everything, changed everything to never sleep, and finally it's running with nothing found. What didn't help me was not changing my sleep time, so I was consantly having to start over. I managed to quaratine about 75 of them myself from the detected files windows, and refreshing the list. and a lot of them were on my backup drive, which was now back on line after the reboot. After the long wait I rebooted the system and startd the scan again, and at last count it was over 800 files, all.

BIG ERROR, I did not physically disconnect it. I had ejected my external drive as prompted. DS_Store it found, and it was stuck on "Preparing to scan" to follow up for over TWO HOURS. On the 20th booted up and got infection notice. Did Webroot® ake me on a wild goosechase?

I can't get a definitive answer on what it really IS, and what is so malicious about it. I scoured the Symantec® site, forums and there is NOTHING referring to that name or other variations. Symantec®'s definitions user lookup has nothing under "OSX.defma". I did a lookup for "OSX.defma" and for other morphed version names.

I disabled Webroot® and installed Symantec® Anti-Virus/Internet Security, updated it and its definitions to today's defs. my system kept slowing, hanging and crashing. The desktop icons we're all lower, blurred resolution, my browser and document fonts we're replaced with incompatible ones that showed as capital "A's". I thought Webroot® was sequestering the ".ds_store" file.Īfter Webroot® converted whatever it deemed malware to its proprietary ".WQF" concentration camp encrypted file format, my system was just no longer usable. I thought the last file was the infected file and that the malware was jumping inside the directory prefs file in this case. The infected file directory path always ended with /.ds_store. am I? I WAS running Webroot® SecureAnywhere when it detected "OSX.defma" and IT thought it a calamity enough to want to quarantine hundreds of files. I'm currently being plagued with this "OSX.defma" malware OR. I'm running Lion 10.7.5 on a iMac 3.4GHz INTEL Core i7, w/16Gb RAM and a 2Tb.
